Twelfth Night in Ashland --- Dia de Reyes

Hello there, all you dearests....
This has been a busy day for your parents. Our long winter's nap segued into a trip to the Y. My 2009 routine of aerobics plus the pool and hot tub got changed yesterday by the orthopedic surgeon, who gave me a cortisone shot. I'm still waiting for it to work, which he says will happen tomorrow. Then I'm not to do anything at all with my shoulder for two weeks. After that, back to the physical therapy and hope for the best. Tiresome.
We were busy all day cleaning and babysitting. We have guests arriving for the house --- student from Hawaii looking at SOU. Then we baby-sat for Cicily while Zoe had a massage and that gig segued into all three Beaureguard girls here for 2 hours while Oona taught a class. We had a riot of an afternoon. First some snacks (this is what always calms Nellie down), then a scavenger hunt and then we all made carrot baby cakes. EVERYONE participated fully. Then it was time for a story and then it was time for lighting the candles that make Mary (the lady, according to Zoe) and Joseph twirl.
All in all a happy time. We are happy to be babysitters and wish we had Ramonita closer by.
This evening we have the Guanajuato group coming for Dia de Reyes at the condo. Dad's been working on some Cuban pork for more than 24 hours. Last time he made it --- with Sara's pork --- it was so popular it never made it out of the kitchen. People came out to see it and ate it on the spot. Angelica's bringing a Rosta de Reyes and is threatening to invite people in off the street to help eat it because apparently it's very bad luck if the entire Rosta's not eaten.
LOVED seeing pictures of the Obama girls starting at SFS. Am trying to imagine their father at his first Meeting for Worship.
Dad is defintely part of the Runkels-on-the-wagon crew, while I am not. There has been a definite curtailment, however.
Contrary to my last report, we have launched the project. Just as we thought we were going to pull the plug, we awoke to the city digging up the street for the utilities and the bank issuing the $$. John contends he'll be able to get it done in plenty of time by using some pre-fab stuff. We're beginning to make choices for doors, etc.
I am certainly glad not to be a wise woman trying to find Bethlehem tonight, dodging rockets and tanks. This comes with my fervent hope that peace and common sense may come to this part of the world before very long.
Our best love to all,
mama
